Since its
origin on the American frontier in the early 1800's, the Christian Church has
attempted to increase respect and understanding among the Christian believers
of all the denominations. Attempting to hold true to the teachings of Jesus
and the practices of the New Testament, it strives for a Christian faith which
is both socially relevant to the era in which we live and is intellectually
sound. No attempt is made to impose a set of formulated doctrines or
traditional interpretations of religious thought upon any member. Many people
from differing church backgrounds have united their home by membership
in the Christian Church because it allows them to bring their own
personal faith together around the one central idea of faith in Jesus
Christ.
With
a strong emphasis on the Lord's Supper, Disciples around the world have chosen
a chalice as our symbol. It is a chalice that bears the St. Andrews Cross (the
cross of Scotland), on a slant angle at the edge of the chalice. The cup
reminds us of the Lord's Supper and the St. Andrews Cross reminds us of our
Scottish heritage from Alexander
and
Thomas Campbell. Top of Page
